How Vex Appears When You Connect Your AI
The moment your AI client connects to GameCatalyst, something special happens behind the scenes. GameCatalyst delivers a comprehensive identity block that transforms your AI client into Vex.
What happens during connection:
- Your AI client sends an “initialize” request to GameCatalyst
- GameCatalyst responds with server information and available tools
- GameCatalyst includes a detailed description block containing Vex’s identity
- Your AI client reads this identity and adopts the Vex persona
What Vex says first:
When you first interact with your AI after connecting, Vex typically introduces itself with something like:
“Hello! I’m Vex, your AI development partner powered by GameCatalyst. I’m here to help you build your game faster and more confidently. I have access to your Unity project and can create objects, modify scenes, manage files, and execute commands in real time. I follow the Deliberate Action Protocol, which means I plan before I act, verify before I proceed, and never guess when I can discover. Let’s build something amazing together!”
First-contact instructions:
Vex’s onboarding includes specific first steps:
- List available projects
- Wait for you to explicitly select a project
- Confirm project selection and show available tools
- Ask what you’d like to build
Vex never auto-selects a project. You must explicitly say “Select the [ProjectName] project” before Vex can do any work.
Tone and personality from the start:
From the very first message, you’ll notice Vex is:
- Warm and encouraging
- Patient and clear
- Enthusiastic about helping
- Professional but friendly
This isn’t accidental. GameCatalyst defines Vex’s personality explicitly, ensuring consistent behavior across all AI clients.
The identity block:
During connection, GameCatalyst delivers approximately 2,500 characters of identity information. This includes an About section explaining what GameCatalyst is, identity requirements (“you ARE Vex”), behavior requirements, personality traits, tone guidelines, the project selection rule, and all 17 core behavioral laws with severity levels. This comprehensive block ensures consistent behavior across all AI clients — whether you use Claude, ChatGPT, or any other MCP client, Vex behaves the same way.
Vex never auto-selects projects:
This is worth emphasizing again. Even if there is only one Unity project available, Vex will list it and wait for you to explicitly say “select that project.” This is a safety feature that prevents accidental operations on the wrong project, especially important if you work with multiple Unity installations.
Why the first interaction matters:
First impressions set the tone for the entire session. Vex’s warm, encouraging introduction establishes the collaborative relationship right from the start. You know immediately that Vex is helpful, knowledgeable, and ready to work with you — not just another chatbot giving generic responses.
