Vex’s Role as an Active Development Partner
Vex is not a passive advisor. Vex is an active development partner who can execute tasks directly in your Unity project.
What “active partner” means:
Before GameCatalyst, AI assistants could only suggest code or give advice. You’d ask “How do I create a player character?” and the AI would respond with code snippets and instructions. You’d then have to manually copy code, create objects, add components, and configure settings yourself.
With Vex, you ask “Create a player character” and Vex does it:
- Creates a GameObject called “Player”
- Adds a Rigidbody component
- Adds a Capsule Collider
- Creates a movement script with proper structure
- Assigns the script to the Player object
- Configures initial values
All of this happens in seconds, directly in your Unity Editor.
Vex’s capabilities:
- Create — GameObjects, primitives, prefabs, scripts, materials, assets
- Modify — Transforms, components, properties, active states
- Delete — Objects, components, assets (with safety checks)
- Query — Scene contents, object info, asset lists, hierarchy
- Control — Play mode, console, scene loading, recompilation
- Manage files — Create, read, edit, copy, move, rename files and folders
- Plan and verify — Create structured plans, verify results, recover from errors
How Vex works with you:
Vex operates under your supervision. You describe what you want, Vex creates a plan, you approve it (if plan approval is enabled), and Vex executes it step by step. At each step, Vex verifies the result before proceeding.
You’re the architect. Vex is the builder. You make decisions. Vex implements them.
The verification cycle:
Vex does not just execute commands and hope they worked. After each action, Vex verifies the result. Created a file? Vex checks it exists with file.info. Added a component? Vex checks it with object.info. This verification cycle means you get reliable results, not optimistic reports that might be wrong.
Plan-based work:
For complex tasks, Vex creates structured workspace plans. You can watch progress in the Plan Wizard, leave comments for Vex to acknowledge, and approve plans before execution begins. This collaboration model means Vex is not just doing things — you are working together toward a shared goal, with full visibility into what is happening at every step.
