Making the Connection: Using the Client Conductor Configurator

How to Use the Configurator Tool

Estimated reading: 0 minutes 8 views

The Client Conductor Configurator is a two-panel window that makes connecting AI clients effortless.

Opening the Configurator:

In Unity’s menu bar, go to Tools → Vexstorm Studios → GameCatalyst → Tools → Client Conductor Configurator.

The interface:

The window has two panels:

  • Left panel — Your selections (platform, AI client, transport, auth mode)
  • Right panel — Generated configuration with copy button and installation instructions

Step-by-step usage:

  1. Select your platform — Windows, macOS, or Linux (auto-detected)
  2. Choose your AI client — Dropdown with 15+ options (Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Cursor, etc.)
  3. Select transport — STDIO (for desktop clients) or Web Relay (for cloud clients). The Configurator auto-selects the correct transport based on your client choice.
  4. Choose auth mode — Usually “None” for local connections. OAuth is available for production deployments.
  5. Click Generate — The right panel updates with your configuration
  6. Click Copy — Copies the configuration to your clipboard
  7. Follow the instructions — The right panel shows client-specific installation steps

Intelligent Relay URL Resolution:

For Web Relay connections, the Configurator uses a 3-tier fallback to find your relay URL:

  1. Live URL — Reads from active relay connection files
  2. Last-known URL — Uses the most recent relay URL from previous sessions
  3. Deterministic URL — Computes the Vexstorm relay URL from your project ID
  4. Placeholder — Shows a placeholder for Cloudflare (since URLs are temporary)

This means you usually don’t need to manually find or type your relay URL. The Configurator finds it for you.

What makes the Configurator special:

The Configurator eliminates guesswork. Without it, you would need to find the correct path to the Conductor script on your system, format it properly for your AI client’s config file, and figure out the right JSON structure. The Configurator does all of this automatically. It detects your platform, generates the correct path, formats the JSON, and even provides client-specific installation instructions in the right panel.

After generating:

Click Copy to put the configuration on your clipboard. Then follow the client-specific instructions shown in the right panel. Each AI client has slightly different steps for adding MCP servers — the Configurator tells you exactly what to do for your chosen client.
