Cloudflare Quick Tunnel for Temporary Access
Cloudflare Quick Tunnel is a fallback relay option for temporary or one-off connections.
What is Cloudflare Quick Tunnel?
It’s a free service from Cloudflare that creates temporary HTTPS tunnels to local services. GameCatalyst can use it as an alternative to the Vexstorm Web Relay.
When to use Cloudflare Quick Tunnel:
- You’re testing GameCatalyst with a cloud AI client
- You need temporary remote access
- You prefer Cloudflare’s infrastructure
- You’re already a Cloudflare user
Benefits of Cloudflare Quick Tunnel:
- Free — No cost for basic usage
- One-click setup — Start from Dashboard or WhatIs
- Cloudflare infrastructure — Global CDN and DDoS protection
- No account required — Works without Cloudflare login
Limitations:
- Temporary URLs — URL changes each time you start the tunnel
- Session-based — Tunnel closes when you stop GameCatalyst
- Requires reconfiguration — You must update your AI client config with the new URL each session
How it works:
- Select “Cloudflare” as the Web Relay provider in Dashboard Settings
- Click “Start” on the Web Relay card
- GameCatalyst launches cloudflared (auto-downloaded if needed)
- Cloudflare assigns a temporary URL (e.g., https://random-words-1234.trycloudflare.com)
- Copy this URL to your AI client’s MCP configuration
- When you stop GameCatalyst, the tunnel closes and the URL becomes invalid
Vexstorm Web Relay vs. Cloudflare Quick Tunnel:
- Vexstorm — Stable URLs, persistent across sessions, designed for GameCatalyst
- Cloudflare — Temporary URLs, changes each session, general-purpose tunnel
For regular use, Vexstorm Web Relay is recommended. Use Cloudflare Quick Tunnel for testing or temporary access.
When to choose Cloudflare over Vexstorm:
The main reason to use Cloudflare Quick Tunnel is if you want a completely free option for occasional testing. It works well for trying out cloud AI connections without committing to the Vexstorm relay. It also appeals to developers who are already Cloudflare users and prefer to use their infrastructure.
Setting up Cloudflare:
Select Cloudflare as your Web Relay provider in Dashboard Settings. When you start the relay, GameCatalyst downloads the cloudflared binary automatically if you do not have it. Cloudflare assigns a random URL like https://random-words-1234.trycloudflare.com. Copy this URL to your AI client’s MCP configuration. Remember: this URL changes every time you restart the tunnel, so you will need to update your AI client config each session.
The bottom line:
For regular use with cloud AI clients, the Vexstorm Web Relay is the better choice — stable URLs, persistent connections, and purpose-built for GameCatalyst. Use Cloudflare for testing, temporary access, or if you specifically prefer Cloudflare’s infrastructure.
