Finding Basic Product Information
The Dashboard provides easy access to product information, version details, and system specifications.
Where to find version information:
- Open the Dashboard
- Click the Software Info tab
- You’ll see the current GameCatalyst version (e.g., “2.1.0”)
- Click “Check for Updates” to see if a newer version is available
Platform details:
The Software Info tab also shows:
- Operating System — Windows, macOS, or Linux with version
- Architecture — x64, ARM64, etc.
- Python Version — The detected Python installation
- Unity Version — Your current Unity Editor version
Supported engines and AI clients:
Scroll down in the Software Info tab to see lists of:
- Supported game engines (Unity fully supported, Unreal and Godot planned)
- Compatible AI clients (15+ clients listed with transport types)
Quick Start instructions:
The Welcome tab includes a Quick Start section with numbered steps:
- Install GameCatalyst (Controls tab)
- Start the servers (Controls tab)
- Connect your AI client (see next chapter)
- Select your project
- Start building
Documentation links:
The Dashboard includes links to:
- WhatIs documentation site — Local documentation at http://127.0.0.1:5001/WhatIs
- Online documentation — docs.vexstorm.com (always free, no registration required)
- Support — support@vexstorm.com email and ticket system
You now have a complete understanding of the Dashboard interface and how to verify your installation is working correctly.
Update checking:
The Software Info tab includes a “Check for Updates” button that queries whether a newer version of GameCatalyst is available. This is the only time GameCatalyst makes an external request — and only when you explicitly click the button. No automatic update checks happen in the background.
Documentation access:
The Dashboard includes links to the local WhatIs documentation site (at http://127.0.0.1:5001/WhatIs) and to the online documentation at docs.vexstorm.com. The online documentation is always free — no registration required. You can also reach the support email (support@vexstorm.com) from the Support tab. Between the Dashboard, WhatIs, and online docs, you have comprehensive documentation coverage from three different access points.
Quick Start in the Welcome tab:
The Welcome tab includes a Quick Start section with numbered steps: Install, Start, Connect your AI, Select your project, and Start building. If you are ever unsure what to do next, this section gives you a clear path forward. It is designed for first-time users who want to get up and running as fast as possible without reading through detailed documentation first.
