The Installation Process: A Step-by-Step Guide

Where to Get GameCatalyst

Estimated reading: 0 minutes 8 views

GameCatalyst is available through the Unity Asset Store. Here’s how to get it:

  1. Open Unity Hub or the Unity Editor
  2. Navigate to the Asset Store (Window → Asset Store in Unity Editor)
  3. Search for “GameCatalyst by Vexstorm Studios”
  4. Click on the GameCatalyst package
  5. Click “Add to My Assets” or “Purchase” (if not already owned)
  6. Once added to your account, click “Import” or “Download”

The package downloads to your Unity project. You’ll see a progress bar showing the download status.

What you’re downloading:

  • Unity Editor scripts and tools (C# code)
  • Dashboard interface (UIToolkit)
  • Python server files (for the central installation)
  • Documentation and command definitions
  • Configuration templates

The download is typically 10-20 MB. Once downloaded, Unity will ask you to import the package into your project.

After downloading:

Once the package downloads, Unity presents an Import window showing all the files that will be added to your project. Keep everything checked — you need all the files for GameCatalyst to work correctly. Click Import and wait for Unity to process the files. This typically takes 30-60 seconds depending on your machine.

Where files go in your project:

The package installs to Assets/Plugins/Vexstorm Studios/GameCatalyst/. This folder contains the Unity Editor scripts, Dashboard interface, Python server files (used during central installation), documentation, command definitions, and configuration templates. The folder structure is organized and self-contained — everything GameCatalyst needs is inside this one folder.

What happens next:

After import completes, you will see the GameCatalyst menu appear under Tools > Vexstorm Studios > GameCatalyst in Unity’s menu bar. This is your main entry point. From here you can open the Dashboard, access the Client Conductor Configurator, manage command definitions, and use all of GameCatalyst’s editor tools. The first thing you will want to do is open the Dashboard and run the installer, which is covered in the next topic.

Multiple projects:

If you have multiple Unity projects, you can import GameCatalyst into each one. They all share the same Central Installation Directory (CID) on your machine, so the servers, databases, and configuration are shared. Each project registers itself independently with the Discovery Server.

With the package imported and the menu visible, you are ready to run the installer and start building.
